Christmas Social 2016

On Tuesday 20 December, members got together for a Christmas dinner at The Table restaurant in Woodbridge. A very sociable evening included a Christmas card competition, judged by Vernon Blackmore, proprietor of The Table, who chose a card designed by Trevor Boyd as the winner. Vernon kindly donated a bottle of wine as the prize, and he can be seen below presenting it to Trevor. Posted 22/12/2016

This year's Tripod Competition, hosted by Wickham Market Photographic Club, saw us competing against them and Framlingham Camera Club with prints and PDIs. The judge was Peter Espley, who did an excellent job scoring each image and giving helpful comments. At the end of the prints section Woodbridge were in the lead, but unfortunately we were pipped at the post by Framlingham, who finished as overall winners, although the result was very close and we were only 4 points behind. Members favourite images will be displayed as a slideshow after our AGM at the Kings Head, Woodbridge on 6 September. The image of Framlingham Church below was taken by Gaye Wightman, and the other images captured by members can be seen here. Posted 29/08/2016

The exhibition was officially opened at a reception on the 8th by the Mayor of Woodbidge, Stephen Attwell, and photographer and organiser of the International Travel Photographer of the Year Show, Chris Coe, selected the best image, which was "Tang Dynasty Drummer" by John Pollard (below). Second place was awarded to Philip Hill for "Wizard", third to Richard Brown for "Salvador Street Art" and fourth to Steve Mecrow for "Polski Kawaleria". The exhibition images can be viewed here. Posted 10/07/2016

Woodbridge Challenge

Unfortunately, our birds of prey photoshoot on Tuesday 21 June had to be cancelled at the last moment, so faced with the task of finding an alternative activity for members, we decided to set them a challenge - to photograph shapes found in the streets and parks around Woodbridge to represent letters that could be arranged in a collage to spell the word WOODBRIDGE, without of course using real letters. This proved to be quite a challenge, but most of those who took part were able to come up with most, if not all of the letters, and you can see collages of the images that some of our members captured here. We finished the evening with a fish and chip supper while comparing notes. Posted 23/06/2016

Wildlife Photography by Jamie Hall

At our May Club meeting, local wildlife photographer Jamie Hall gave us a fascinating presentation about his various projects, including deer crossing the M25, wild boar in the Forest of Dean and owls photographed close to his home. He showed us some stunning images and explained how he was able to capture them using infra-red detectors, remote controls, flash and a very understanding wife! Some of his photographs can be seen on his website at www.jamiehallphotography.co.uk. Posted 19/05/2016

Monochrome competition - 16 February 2016

The winning image was the sepia-toned "Ploughman" by Philip Hill, and entries from Charmian Berry, Trevor Boyd, Richard Brown, Sue Garrod and Brian Trayner were also awarded high marks. It was good to see entries from so many members and the standard was very high. Posted 18/02/2016

Creative Photography by Barbie Lindsay

At our October Club meeting members enjoyed an inspirational presentation by Barbie Lindsay on creative photography. Barbie showed us a selection of her images, many of which have been exhibited and won awards, both nationally and internationally. The wide range of subjects that she tackles and the techniques that she uses, both in-camera and using software provided members with many ideas on how to progress with their own photographic endeavours. Posted 21/10/2015

Tripod Competition - 6 October 2015

This year it was Woodbridge's turn to host the annual Tripod Competition, competing against Framlingham and Wickham Market Camera Clubs with prints and PDIs. The judge was Vic Hainsworth ARPS DPAGB, who did an excellent job awarding scores to each image and giving very helpful comments and advice. Our PDI competition, entitled "The Funny Side" was won by Richard Brown with his image "Postman's Nightmare". Annual Exhibition 2015

Another successful annual exhibition, this year held on 3-4 July at Woodbridge Shire Hall with 60 member's photographs on display. We had about 175 visitors over the two days, and the comments in the visitor's book were very positive about the standard of the work.

Our thanks go to local photographers John and Annette Roberts, who had the difficult task of selected the best photograph from a diverse range of entries, and the winner was Phil Hill with his image "Partnership Under the Sun". Sue and Jonathan Garrod shared the second prize and a number of photographs received commendations.

John and Annette are pictured below. See all the exhibition images here. Posted 05/07/2015

Woodbridge Trail Photoshoot

On the evening of 15 June, about 12 of our members wandered the streets of Woodbridge with their cameras, following clues to a number of locations in the town that they had to photograph creatively. We then met in a local pub to share our images over a drink and a meal. All those who took part agreed that this was an enjoyable and rewarding evening, giving them the opportunity to photograph well-known local features, and socialise with other members afterwards. Some of the images captured by members on the evening can be seen herePosted 21/06/2015

Headshot Photography by Toby Gray

At our May club meeting, members enjoyed a talk and demonstration by Toby Gray on headshot photography. Toby explained to us the lighting setup he uses, and the tricks that he employs to ensure that his subjects become photogenic, however unphotogenic they may think they are! He then invited members to become his subjects in a practical demonstration, with his camera tethered to his computer. Posted 23/05/2015

Print Competition - 17 February 2015

Andrew’s speciality is dance photography where he has, for a number of years, taken photographs of performing dancers. Andrew’s presentation covered the background to his work and the techniques he uses, as well as showing us both monochrome prints and some more recent digital images. Posted 17/04/2014

PDI Competition - February 2014

February’s meeting was a PDI competition, with the theme “Time”. This attracted 49 very imaginative and high quality images that were judged and commented upon by an EAF judge, Nigel Rea. This was the first club competition where our work has been exposed to an external judge. Nigel’s comments were very constructive and gave us some useful feedback. The images were given marks out of 10 - 6 images scored 9, and the winning image, “Marching to Time” from John Pollard, scored 9½! Well done John!

Whisstocks Project

Woodbridge Camera Club is working with the developer, FW Properties, and local organisations including Woodbridge Riverside Trust and the Woodbridge Society, to document the past, present and future of the Whisstocks Boatyard site, which is to be redeveloped to provide residential and commercial accommodation, a new Town Museum and a smaller boatyard, where it is hoped that a replica of the Sutton Hoo Saxon longship will be constructed. The Club will be using photography to capture the changes to the site as the existing buildings are demolished and new buildings constructed, and to eventually compile a DVD to provide an historical record of these changes. The project is expected to commence in the Summer of 2014.
