Christmas Social
Unfortunateluy we were unable to meet physically for a festive meal this year but instead we enjoyed a virtual Christmas social on Zoom, with members sharing Christmas cards that they had created. A photo quiz was also planned but unfortunately, due to the mysteries of Robin's Google Drive, this didn't quite work out! Perhaps on another occasion. Posted 05/01/2021
Abstract competition - 17 November 2020
Congratulations to Steve Stammers for winning our virtual Abstract competition on 17 November with his image "Martello Twirl" (see below), which was awarded a perfect score of 20 by judge Frank Blyth. From the 55 entries, Frank also selected "Lady in Blue" by Barrie Henderson and "Oil Drop Encircled" by Trevor Boyd for second and third places respectively. Tripod Trophy 2020
This year our annual Tripod Trophy competition, pitting us against Framlingham and Wickham Market Camera Clubs, had to be held virtually via Zoom. Each club submitted 16 images to the critical eye of judge Vic Hainsworth, who awarded scores and passed on his helpful advice to the photographers. The competition was won by Framlingham with a total score of 277, with Woodbridge at 266 and Wickham Market 234. However, Woodbridge triumphed in both the best colour image and best monochrome image, which were won by Barry Cross for his colour image "Butley Boilers" and Keith Pryke for his monochrome "In Your Hands" (see below).

Annual General Meeting 2020
Due to not being able to have live meetings, our AGM this year was held on Zoom, and the following members were elected to the Steering Group for the forthcoming year:

Virtual Exhibition 2020
This year our annual exhibition of members' images is a virtual exhibition, which can be viewed as a slideshow in YouTube here. The images were judged by local photographer Andrew Cockrill, who awarded first place to Charmian Berry for her image "Fun for all the Families" (see below). Second and third places both went Sue Garrod for "The Last Supermoon at Orford Lighthouse" and "Fly the Flag for V.E. Day" respectively, and there were also 22 highly commended entries. "Lockdown" Zoom competition - 21 July 2020
On 21 July we held our first Zoom competition, with the appropraite subject "Lockdown". 41 entries from members had been sent to judge Barbie Lindsay beforehand, and she joined us online to give her comments, advice, scores and in some cases to show us how she would have improved the image by minor adjustments in Photoshop or other image editing software.
First place went to Graham Wood for his image "Lockdown Loneliness", which gave a graphic impression of the feeling of isolation due to being alone at this time (see below). In a close second was Steve Stammers with "Wandering Aimless with No Place to Go". A gallery of all images can be viewed here.

"Virtual" PDI competition
Congratulations to Barry Cross for taking first and second places in our "virtual" PDI competition, in which members entries were posted online and the images scored by their fellow members. Barry's 'Catalan Sunset' (see below) received the highest score from the 75 entries, followed by his image 'Butley Boilers'. Joint third place was taken by Barrie Henderson for 'A Lazy Sunny Afternoon' and Trevor Boyd for 'Kalahari Kinship'.
Images by Peter Skeet, John Pollard, David Semaine and Daryl Butcher also received high scores and were awarded highly commended.

From Dusk to Dawn competition - 18 February 2020
Our Dusk to Dawn competition yielded two entries that judge Andy Wilson ARPS could not separate, so he awarded joint first place to John Hughes' "Uyuni Sunset" and Robin Garrod's "Henry Moore Enters the Twilight Zone". There were a total of 53 entries from members, and our thanks go to Andy for his judging and helpful comments on all of them. Third place went to Richard Brown for "Deben Sunset", a subject that featured heavily in the entries! John's "Uyuni Sunset" is below, and all the entries can be viewed here. Posted 19/02/2020
Give a Child a Camera
Speaker at our meeting on 21 January was Julian Claxton, founder of Give a Child a Camera, which he set up in 2015.
Julian gave us an inspiring talk about how, on a visit to Uganda in 2014 he came across the Eden Preparatory School in the south-west of the country, and resolved to help them by providing cameras and film, and teaching the children how to use the equipment, with the aim of empowering them to tell the story of their life through photography. The project was a great success and has been the model for similar projects set up by Julian in other parts of Uganda and Rwanda.
